Most family lawyers have what is called a "forms practice" - their paralegal does most of the work based on a "cookie cutter" format. They follow the standard operating procedure by seeking primary custody, whether it is in the children's best interest or not, sending out some form discovery, then moving for a home study.
I believe that good lawyers have an obligation to contribute to this important, but often poorly executed, area of law. However, I have rules. I will not represent anyone who uses their children as weapons or unnecessarily places them in the middle of what should be an adult conflict. I expect my clients to be models of patience, decency, compromise, and reasonableness, and to exhaust all efforts to find agreed-upon solutions to family issues. However, after all such efforts are exhausted, if the opposing side will not reciprocate, I will litigate your case zealously and completely, applying the same winning litigation techniques that good lawyers use in other areas of law.
