Control Panel |
- Talk Line: This is where you type your message in.
- Message Recall Buttons: These forward and backward buttons let you scroll through the last dozen messages you've sent. Using these buttons can save you a lot typing.
- The 'To:' list: This drop-down list is used for two things: to send a message to a person in 'Private' mode, or to address them by name in regular conversation.
- Talk Button: Click on this button to send your message. (You can also 'talk' by pressing the [Enter] key on your keyboard.)
- Clear PM Button: Clicking this button clears the 'Private' checkbox and resets the 'To:' list to 'All'. It's just a quick way to reset the controls after sending a Private Message.
- Icon List: Use this drop-down list to select an icon to send with your message. Icons are automatically previewed just to the left of the drop-down list.
- Text Color Control: This drop-down list allows you to select the color for your messages.
- Font Face Control: Use this drop-down list to select a font style for your messages. Note that you may not see the correct font if you don't have the same (or similar) font installed on your PC.
- Font Size Control:Use this drop-down list to control how big the text will be in your messages.
- Private Message Control: By putting a checkmark in the 'Private' box, your message will be sent privately to the name in the 'To:' list (if you've selected one there).
- Scroll Screen On/Off: This checkbox controls whether or not the screen scrolls automatically to show new messages. You'll always want this checked unless you're scrolling back through previous messages (for example, to check something).
- Auto-Clear Icon Display: This checkbox controls whether or not the Icon List is reset each time after you post a message. Some people like to pick a 'signature' icon and use it on every post (it helps the other users keep track of their posts when the room is busy).

To send a Private Message:
- Click on the 'Private' checkbox and make sure it is 'checked'.
- Select a person from the drop-down 'TO:' list to send the private message to.
- Click the 'Talk' button or press [Enter] on your keyboard.
Your message will appear to both you and the recipient (but nobody else) as:
'Bill says to Mary [Private]: Here is my message...'
If a name is selected from the drop-down 'TO:' list but the 'Private' checkbox is NOT 'checked', the message will appear on the screen as
'Bill says to Mary: Here is my message...'
This message will be visible to everyone in the room.
